Ruby
A ruby is a deep red colored gemstone. Ruby is one of the traditional cardinal gems, together with amethyst, sapphire, emerald, and diamond. The word ruby comes from ruber, Latin for red. The color of a ruby is caused by the element chromium. The quality of a ruby gemstone is determined by its color, cut, and clarity, which along with carat weight, affects its value. Ruby is the traditional birthstone for the month July. The world’s most valuable ruby to be sold at auction is the Sunrise Ruby, which was sold for more than 28 million usd.

Saffron
Saffron is derived from the Crocus sativus flower, commonly known as the “saffron crocus”. The vivid threads are collected and dried for a variety of uses such as seasoning, food flavoring and are used in scents. Saffron’s taste and iodoform-like or hay-like fragrance result from the phytochemicals picrocrocin and Safranal but also contains a carotenoid pigment, crocin, which imparts a rich golden-yellow, orange, red hue to dishes and textiles. Its recorded history is attested in a 7th-century BC Assyrian botanical text.
Saffron has long been the world’s costliest spice by weight. Although some doubts remain on its origin, it is believed that saffron originated in Iran. In the 21st century, Iran produces around 90% of the world total for saffron with the highest quality. At $5,000 per kg or higher, saffron is the world’s most expensive spice.

What does Saffron perfume smell like?
Saffron in a perfume gives a bittersweet, leathery, intimate scent – honeyed and hay-like are other descriptions that perfumers give to saffron, which works especially well in oriental-type perfumes.
The priciest of spices – known as ‘red gold’ – saffron is one of the most ancient perfume ingredients: it is on itself a ‘single note’ perfume, but can be blended in more complex perfumes as well. (The ever-extravagant Romans even strewed it over the floors of public places, to scent the air on special occasions).
Ruby Saffron
Our own interpretation, coming from an ancient and traditional Indian formulation, contains saffron, amber resins, a spice and floral mix in a base of sandalwood. Aromatic, earthy, floral, and sweet, Ruby Saffron is capturing complexity and pleasure in a single bottle. It is in our opinion the most luxurious and mysterious amongst our collection.
